This large oval box is perfect for oats, barley, legumes and other dry foods, or to keep small tools like a sewing kit. Boxes like these have been in use for food storage since before the Viking age in Scandinavia and Russia. The natural wood has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties that help to prevent premature spoilage.

Each birchbark box is unique, so we’re unable to photograph each one. You’ll receive a box similar to the one pictured, but expect variations in the natural wood grain, and the color and pattern of the leather handle.

Each box is one of a kind, so we do not photograph each box individually. Expect natural variations in surface texture and small variations in color.

  • Hand crafted by a master artisan in Lithuania from sustainably-harvested birchbark, hardwood and handmade pine root lacing..
  • Handle is hand cut and stamped by Scot King from remnants of his iconic belts, reducing the waste footprint of our studio. Colors and patterns may vary.

Our glazes

We finish the interiors of our vessels with a variety of food and microwave-safe glazes. Each item is handmade and kiln fired, which leads to some beautiful variations between batches. The examples below will give you a good idea of what your piece will look like.
